Forrest Yoga Workshops in Marseille 2018-19

Sita Menon ~ March 9th & 10th, 2019

Sita is the Founder and Owner of Evolve Yoga in Berlin and Forrest Yoga Guardian and Teacher. Sita found her way to yoga 19 years ago after the birth of her oldest child. What started out as a need to simply find a way to balance a stressful job in telecommunications software and family life with children, quickly deepened into a practice that Sita felt compelled to pursue. After a few years of practicing various styles – Baptiste Power Yoga, Vinyasa, Ashtanga – with various renowned teachers, Sita found her home in Forrest Yoga. She met Ana Forrest, the creatrix of Forrest Yoga, in 2005 and did her first 200-hour teacher training with one of Ana’s early students. She followed that with the 5-day Continuing Education for Teachers in 2010, the Advanced Forrest Training in 2010 and the 200-hour Foundation Training with Ana Forrest in 2012. In Jan 2016, Ana invited her to step into training to become a Guardian. Forrest Yoga Guardians are hand-picked by Ana to continue the legacy of Forrest Yoga and to mentor other Forrest Yoga Teachers. Sita became a Guardian in September 2017 and now runs her own mentorship programs out of Berlin. Sita is also currently enrolled in a four year professional training for Hakomi Mindful Somatic Psychotherapy and brings in elements of her learning into her teaching.
Sita teaches with a passion for Forrest Yoga that reflects the impact Forrest Yoga has had on her own life. She is enthusiastic about teaching her students how to live free of pain – physical and emotional. She brings in a quality of mindfulness into the way she teaches Forrest Yoga that encourages students to look into their own emotional patterns, accept themselves for who they are and evolve from a place of acceptance and being good enough. Sita also shares her healing touch with her students – with the permissions of her students, she uses her hands-on adjustments as way to hold space for the student while they process and breathe. The sensitivity and depth with which these hands-on adjustments are given, create an incredibly healing and accepting environment where, as human beings, we get to connect to one another on a non-verbal, feeling level.
Sita is also one of the co-founders of Earthwalking – a platform that organizes the Earthwalking Festival and other Forrest Yoga related events in Berlin and fosters the growth of the local Forrest Yoga community and aspires to promote living in Balance and Beauty.

The programme

Connecting to Self – Arriving in the home of your body: March 9th ~ Saturday 10h-13h : All Levels
This workshop will begin with the Native American ceremony of setting the intent through the four directions followed by chanting and singing. The asana practice will take us deep into the earth – grounding through legs and delving deep into hips. Arriving and being in the home of your body is a pre-requisite to any inter-personal connection. This practice will focus on using the breath and sensation-tracking as a pathway into our emotional states and feeling into what life patterns we hold in our problems areas.

Holding space in Mindfulness – Part 1 – March 9th ~ Saturday 2:30pm – 5pm : Teachers, Space Holders and serious students
Holding space is an integral part of the journey of teaching yoga or any other modality that involves creating and holding space for the student to feel. In this segment of the Holding Space workshop – we will learn to connect into layers of feeling ourselves in relation to another. This workshop will include a short pranayama, asana and mindfulness practice to get us connected to our bodies followed by partner and group exercises that allow us to experience ourselves in relation to another in mindfulness. We will also partner up to explore assisting one another in selected yoga poses that will allow us to experience first hand how it feels to experience ourselves in active, hands-on, contact with another.

Connecting to community through connecting to oneself: March 10th ~ Sunday 10am – 1pm: All Levels
This workshop will be a sequel to Saturday’s workshop but can also be taken independently. This workshop will begin with the Native American ceremony of setting the intent through the four directions followed by chanting and singing. The asana practice will lead into backbends – softly opening heart and solar plexus through breath and poses, while maintaining a strong, grounded sense of self. We will explore how we can energetically connect to the community around us – while simultaneously – maintaining a deep connection with staying in our bodies and staying in feeling. This art of feeling deeply into oneself while staying in relationship with others is an essential part of an authentic relationship to another.

Holding space in Mindfulness* – Part 2 – March 10th ~ Sunday 2:30pm – 5pm – Teachers, Space Holders and serious students
In the second segment of the Holding Space workshop – we will learn to see and read energy and to feel into another through our own bodies. This workshop will include a short pranayama, asana and mindfulness practice before we delve into partner and group work in seeing/sensing energy, use of empathing, kinesthetic transmission and communication in assisting, and learning to track being in relationship with another through our bodies with mindfulness.

What is Forrest Yoga?

Forrest Yoga teaches you to become proficient at safely tailoring each pose to work best for you, particularly with physical and emotional injuries. By learning to work honestly at your edges, you develop effective tools to deal with fear and struggle.
